Who We Are

I have been involved in ceramics since the 1980's. I originate from South Africa where we had a largish ceramic/pottery factory. It was in a very remote part of the country so we were forced to dig our own clay out of the surrounding mountains.

I also played around with different firing methods using sawdust to fire a quickly built kiln and also cow pats... you would be surprised how much heat you can get from a pile of 'poo'. I also use the ancient coiling method of building a pot sometimes, usually when i haven't cleaned my wheel for ages. It's a method used by the Romans. It's quite simple really, you just make long coils and place them on top of each other. Once you got the size you want you then just smooth it out. While we produced a lot of mass produced moulded beer mugs and coffee mugs I still couldn't stray to far away from my first love in ceramics being individual pieces of hand crafted art.

I now operate on a much smaller scale and everything I do is 100% hand made by myself, no moulds used anymore, it's myself, my treadle wheel and my hands....oh and whatever is going on in my mind at the time. What you see on my website may or may not be sold but if you do like a specific piece I can always reproduce it for you. It may not be 100% the same as it's hand made but should be more or less the same.

As you can see from the photo's I tend to go for the natural clay look, I'm not keen on bright shiny colours. Please take a look at what I do and if there's nothing there that interests you then please feel free to contact me and we can discuss what it is your after. I can make anything within reason.
